Greetings -

Who's the bad, bad team director?

Sheesh. This has been such a busy spring and summer season and I am
painfully aware that i've been remiss in keeping you all up to date regarding
the Richard Sachs 'Cross Team In a recent exchange with my pal team-
mates, a reply came through that contained contained this gem:

"I don't think it would be possible for one lone guy to take away the camaraderie that
we've got as a team. We'll all be at the start line taking each others' stuff, we'll all be
in the pit helping out, we'll all be cheering loudly, regardless of who else joins us. I'm
so excited...i even dismounted 'cross style from my road bike today."

And when I read those words, I realized it's time for me to resume pestering
all of you on a regular basis atmo*.

Though I have not yet written much, there isn't a week that passes in which a
good portion of it isn't consumed with team email chain letters, notes to sponsors,
taking inventory of useable parts from past seasons, and a whole lotta' shet behind
the scenes so that, when September rolls around, we're a well-oiled, lean and mean
'cross team machine. Hey - don't hang up yet.

In recent months, I've 1) tightened up art for the 2007 team kit that VergeSport
will be producing in August, 2) had a wonderful visit from Alex Braun and Donn
Kellogg from Challenge tires, and am convinced we'll have the best rubber and
tread at any start line this season, 3) had several great conversations with Roland
Murphy of RGM Watches, our title sponsor, about plans to keep this, our third season
together, our best ever, 4) chatted with Peter of Cane Creek to tie up the wheel and
accessory needs for our team, 5) placed orders with Jason at Crank Brothers for
the best 'cross pedals on the market, and 6) i've orderd and received our 2007 livery
of helmets and eyewear from long-time RS Team sponsor Rudy Project. Heck - i've
done other stuff too, but i'm typing from memory, and the attention span stuff is kicking
in. So...

For 2007, we also welcome back Rex Chiu as a sponsor, and are pleased to add firms
to the support group: Radix Group LLC, and Ozell Stankus Associates Architects. More
on these and other sponsors and supporters will follow in the weeks and months ahead.
On the roster side of the ledger, returning campers are Justin Spinelli, Jon Hamblen,
Alicia Hamblen, Amy Wallace, Dave Genest and Brian Hayes. New to our core group
are Alie Kenzer and Matt Kraus, both of whom are proven, elite-level racers. We have
our first team meeting of the season this Saturday, and we'll take notes and some pics,
and report on it all in the next email.

On a separate note, for all of you familiar with my many Yahoo Photos galleries in
which lived hundreds/thousands of images, many 'cross team related - well that page
is now dead. Vapor. Done. Zip. From this point on, all of my pictures live here:

Once you bookmark this link, you will notice that all the sets and galleries are in similar
order to what used to exist at Yahoo Photos.

Until next time, thanks for reading!

  1. Hello Richard,

Is it EVER too early to think about 'Cross???

We're delighted to announce that Jonathan Page will be racing at our event on Sept 22/23.

I can almost hear you thinking "what the H___ is Jon Page doing racing in MICHIGAN???"

I wonder myself. Regardless, he's coming and we're super excited. Seriously, this is MICHIGAN! From my limited interaction, my impression is that Jon is a really down-to-earth guy. I'm guessing that he's just thinking of this trip at "Bringing CROSS to the masses". Here in the Midwest we're not use to having superstars grace our events. Sure, in LA or Boulder you'll have a bunch of Euro pros lining up for the Tuesday night world championships, but this is Michigan!!!

Here are some recent news items on the event:

As the guy who was instrumental in launching Jonathans career, we'd love to have the Richard Sachs Cyclocross team racing at this event. Our resources are limited, but we could try to arrange something for you guys.

    Contact me with any questions.

    Sincerely,
    Joe Lekovish

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    Contact: Joe Lekovish
    Media Director, Tailwind Cyclocross Series

Jonathan Page to race at "DOUBLE-CROSS" in Southeast Michigan, Sept 22nd/23rd!!!

August 2, 2007 (Clarkston, MI) - As the only UCI sanctioned Cyclocross racing in the Eastern half of the US the weekend of September 22nd and 23rd, the KTR Michigan "DOUBLE-CROSS" weekend is certain to draw a field of the nation's top Cyclocross racers. Additionally, the "DOUBLE-CROSS" weekend is honored to announce that 3 time US Cyclocross National Champion and 2007 Cyclocross World Championship silver medalist, Jonathan Page (Sunweb-Projob), will be racing on both days!

The 2007 "DOUBLE-CROSS" weekend will be the fourth consecutive year of UCI sanctioned cyclocross racing in Southeastern Michigan. With two back-to-back days of racing, the event has been a mainstay of the Midwestern Cyclocross season since it started. With dates around the end of September each year, this event has served as a season opener for the regions elite cyclocross racers.

"We're extremely fortunate to have Jonathan attending our event," says promoter Jeff Noftz, owner of Kinetic Systems bike shop in Clarkston, Michigan. "Since we started to promote a UCI sanctioned cyclocross race in Michigan 4 years ago, our goal has been to attract the highest caliber of athletes. This year with Jonathan and others, we're achieving that goal." As the first and only US Cyclocross racer to earn a full-time contract to race professionally in Europe, the demands of Jonathans schedule make his participation in the US very rare. As such, the "DOUBLE-CROSS" event may be one of only 2-3 events that Jonathan will race in the US during the 2007/2008 season, making this a CAN'T MISS event for both racers and spectators alike.

"I'm happy to be racing in Michigan at the "DOUBLE-CROSS" this year," said Jonathan Page. "My commitments to race in Europe don't allow me to race in the US often, so I'm taking the opportunity to bring the sport to the Midwest and attend what I am sure will be an exceptional weekend of racing."

The Michigan "DOUBLE-CROSS" UCI C2 cyclocross weekend also serves as the first two events in the 2007 Tailwind Enterprises Cyclocross series. Additionally 2007 is the 10th consecutive year that Robert Linden and Tailwind Enterprises have been promoting Cyclocross racing in Southeastern Michigan. In that time participation and interest in the sport of Cyclocross has exploded and this year is projected to be a record year for participation. Come see what all the excitement is about at Springfield Oaks Park in Davisburg, Michigan, September 22nd and 23rd, then at six separate locations from October to December.

The "DOUBLE-CROSS" cyclocross weekend of racing is organized and promoted by a team of insane cyclocross fanatics from the Flying Rhinos Cycling Club, Kinetic Systems Bicycles and Tailwind Enterprises. Each of whom have been pivotal to the past, current and future success of the "DOUBLE-CROSS" event.

Some host-housing is available to selected UCI registered Elite racers who are interested in attending. Please contact: info@semicxc.org.
