Greetings -
As the season ends and the Richard Sachs Cyclocross Team updates
are now fewer and far between, it's a good time to share some thoughts
with all of you that follow us all year long. Recently, I asked all the riders
to pen some words regarding the 2006 season. There were no limits,
and nothing special need(ed) to be covered in the texts. I simply wanted
some random musings about the experience regarding the team, or the
racing, or the sponsors, or the expectations, or all or none of the above.
Today I will share two of those texts with you.

From
Alicia Hamblen:
Some folks watch Football
Some do ballet
Some have pretty, long, green grass
While some play croquet

But there are a select few
Who on the weekends come out
Wind, rain or snow
They're committed with no doubt

Of all of the crossers
In this great nation of ours
There is one small group
That clearly has special powers

They come all in black

On steeds of red and white
With the finest components
Prepared for the fight

A team through and through
Camaraderie, support, Friendship
They continue a legacy
On a bike that all worship

My 9th year on the squad
Purple to red to black
My greatest memories
And I’d never give them back

From
Dave Genest:
The 2007 cross season started out as a question mark. Our last season
was good, but not our best with a bunch of injuries, lots of travel, and
a few bright spots... plus the natz was a blow-out weatherwise. So we
were ready for a change.

The old guard on the team (Alicia, Noah, Brian, and Justin) are a hard
lot (some say they don't come any more dedicated nor hard) and were
prepared to lay it all out to increase our exposure and results. We were
prepared to give it a bums rush and more...and let the prisoners lie
where they fell. But we needed more.
So, eRICHIE and I met secretly with an old crossage from the lost island
of Pain...where everything is sooo freekin hard and no one freekin complains...
where people eat nails...just because they can...and walk on razor blades
and sleep on beds of fire...because..it hurts. The island builds characters...
and we needed some new ones. The crossage, after long discussion and
deep meditation, said to us..."get black jo-jo"...(he was a big beatles fan)
and...then he said "speed kills".
We swam back to Chester from the island and called the two biggest
characters we knew who would look swell in black and were soo fast
it killed everything including odor. Jon and Amy were added to the
team and we changed our team colors from red to blacatmo. Now
one could argue that the red brought us over ten national cross
medals in the past 12 or so years...but the new squadra negra was
beyond bitchin...color and speed-wise.

Plus we didn't want to queer our deal with the crossage as he decided
to sponsor us.
The rest...is pretty much history.
