Greetings -

Racing has begun!

The Richard Sachs Cyclocross Team's 2007 season got underway in the Granite State
yesterday at the Milford Cyclocross Classic at the Hampshire Dome. That event's website
can be seen here. It was a wonderful autumn day in central New England with temps in the
70s and a constant rain all through the late morning making for a great first 'cross race venue
of the year atmo*

The course had everything a racer needed to shake out the summer cobwebs: three sets
of barriers, a sand pit, many off-camber turns, single track, and a fair amount of questionable
traction owing to the precipitation situation.

Because this was the earliest the 'cross calendar has started in a long time, our ranks consisted
of only a few brave souls. I met Amy, Alie, and Matt in the parking lot and the was history. Alie
is nursing a sore body resulting from a person-versus-car encounter two weeks ago, but her
wounds are nearly healed and she will launch her racing season next Sunday. As far as the
event goes, in the Elite Women's event Amy got off to a great start and made the first selection
which eventually broke up about 35 minutes into the race. Her sixth place in the season opener
is a solid result and bodes well for the next block of racing. In the Elite Men's event, Matt
"Pookums" Kraus got the hole shot and then powered his way for the next 50 minutes in a break
of three peers. At the end of the day, he netted a third place which is a perfect way for Matt to
start his career in the black kit of the RS 'Cross Team.

I had a great time at this first race and screamed my head off as my team mates raced their
hearts out for themselves as well as for our sponsors and supporters. While they were out there
pedaling, Alie and I kept things in check in the pit with the spare bicycles. Luckily, there were
no mishaps or mechanicals!

Upon returning home last evening, I was met with an email from Paul Weiss. I am happy to
say that he already has pics up on his seminal site, and also ecstatic that Paul's homepage has
this great image of Matt killin' it on the first lap
. Additionally, here is the link for the Women's race
and here is the link for the Men's race. Forza Paolo!!!

And speaking of pictures, I did bring my rusty Sony Mavica to new Hampshire and managed
to get a few images from the tailgate party. Ergo, the official 2007 gallery starts now.

More to come after next weekend's events.
Thanks for reading.
